Fillings

Young people eating ice cream and laughingTooth decay is one of the most common preventable dental diseases. Its effects are long-lasting and impact all ages. Fortunately, early intervention allows us to treat cavities while they’re still small and before they lead to abscessed teeth or complete tooth loss.

Today’s modern dental fillings are made of minimally-invasive composite materials that bond closely to your tooth. Not only do they blend in with your smile but they also require little alteration to your tooth overall. The results are both attractive and durable.

Do I Have a Cavity?

Not all cavities are painful. Some of the most common symptoms include food getting caught when you eat, irritation to biting/chewing, rough edges you can feel with your tongue and sensitivity to sweets. By routinely evaluating your teeth and taking occasional X-rays, we can screen for cavities between and inside of your teeth where you might not otherwise see them.

Early intervention is key. The sooner we diagnose the cavity and treat it, the greater amount of tooth structure we can preserve. Unless cavities are treated promptly, they can spread into the nerve structure as well as adjacent teeth.

What to Expect

Dental fillings are a straightforward treatment that we can comfortably perform by numbing the tooth with local anaesthetic. You’ll only feel a bit of pressure as the decay is removed. From there, we use a special shade guide to match the colour of the filling material to your enamel. Then we shape the composite into your tooth (to fill in the void) and cure it with a bright light.
